Good-bye Uggs: Transitioning Your Wardrobe From Winter to Spring - Women Campus

It’s that time of year when we can begin to pull out the lighter jackets and cram our winter coats in the back of our closets. However, let’s not get too excited just yet. It’s not warm enough to pull out our favorite spring dresses and perfect sandals to match, but we can still incorporate some of our brand new spring items with our still relevant winter pieces. Melissa Rappaport, a fashion Public Representative from Rapparound Public Relations, will guide us through how to pair our overused winter clothes with bright and colorful spring clothes during this tricky fashion transition period.

Pair Bright Scarves With Light Shirts

img9.jpeg You can bury the heavy long-sleeved shirts for now, but it’s a little too soon to take out the tank tops. It is time to take out the lighter short-sleeved and long-sleeved shirts. To add a little bit of flare to your outfit, pair a bright colored scarf with a lighter shirt. Rappaport suggests, “The perfect long-sleeved tee and lightweight scarf is a great way to transition from winter to spring. When it’s too warm for a heavy jacket but not warm enough for short sleeves, pair a scarf like this Lauren Scarf over a lightweight long-sleeved fitted tee.” You can also look for fun, bright scarves at any Madewell and J.Crew store. This outfit provides a great balance between winter and spring.

Brighten Up With Accessories

img 5.jpeg Many college girls (like me) are too intimidated to wear lots of jewelry. But if you’re willing to take a chance, wearing jewelry can add splashes of color to your wardrobe. Whether it’s long, simple colorful necklaces, layered necklaces, or bright bangles, they will give your dreary winter outfit a positive twist. Rappaport says, “Brighten your wardrobe with colorful accessories like this triple stranded beaded necklace from Danielle Stevens ($200). Made of Czech crystal, citrine, fluorite and green turquoise beads, you can pair this with any neutral colored sweater or long-sleeved top and a pair of jeans to give a pop of color to your winter wardrobe, or toss on stackable bangles from Lenora Dame like this decoupage bangle trio (three for $68)- it will give your wintery outfit a spring vintage twist”. img 06-01.jpeg You don’t have to spend a fistful of money if you don’t want to. You can also look for jewelry like this at Forever 21, H&M, and Urban Outfitters. Not only will these accessories brighten up your outfit, but they can also brighten up your day.

Pair Heavy Boots With Spring Dresses or Skirts

mail-3.jpeg It’s not exactly the right time to wear your favorite spring dress with the perfect sandals or a bright skirt with a pair of sneakers. So let’s go to the next best thing, let’s pair our favorite spring dresses or skirts with our heavy winter boots like Sienna Miller does, allowing us to jump into spring with our feet warm. These boots can be your Frye, military buckle boots, L.L Bean Boots, or even your rain boots. This is a great balance of girlie and grungy.

Introducing The Cropped Tee

img10.jpeg Rappaport is a fan of the cropped tee and knows it will be one of the top trends for spring. “Introduce an oversized cropped tee into your wardrobe because these will be huge for spring, but stick to a darker color scheme until it’s warm enough to wear the bright ones. Throw a fitted tank under it and wrap a scarf around as well (also from Market, $35) and you will be super stylish and fashionably ready for spring.” For cheaper cropped tees you can look in the Salvation Army which has a large variety. A light blue cropped tee, like the one pictured, is stylish and introduces a spring trend early. You’ll be one of the most fashionable girls on campus. Let’s bounce into spring gracefully. Incorporate bright colors by accessorizing a necklace or scarf with your outfit, or pair boots with a light spring dress, or wear a cropped tee with a white tank top. Transitioning from winter to spring is tough, but by following these steps you will be a force to be reckoned with in the fashion department.
