Step Into Spring: The Top 5 Spring Shoe Trends - Women Campus
Spring has officially sprung. It’s time to put away the heavy boots and pull out our favorite pair of sandals and wedges, or even splurge on a fancy new pair of shoes. We have the inside scoop on the hottest new trends in spring footwear. By the end of this article, you will be ready to strut into spring with the perfect pair of shoes.
The Strappy Sandal
The strappy sandal is a necessity for your spring shoe collection. These shoes are perfect for going to class, lunch with friends, or even a fancy party since you have the ability to dress them up with a frock or down with jeans. The strappy sandals this year come in a great variety of styles. There’s the classic gladiator thong-inspired sandal, a sandal with an assortment of thick and thin straps. Models walking the Chloe runway for Spring 2010 at Paris Fashion Week wore these shoes in neutral colors such as tan and white. You can go simple with the gladiator sandal without detail and thick straps, or a gladiator sandal with studs and jewels like the embellished gladiator Steve Madden sandals that Kate Moss is wearing in the picture above.
If you’re not fond of the gladiator sandal, you can always go towards the classic thong sandal. These light pink Jimmy Choo sandals have the ability to be paired with a more casual or fancier outfit, and the color happens to be perfect for the spring season. Of course we’re college students, so Jimmy Choo isn’t really in our budget. Look for cheaper versions at Urban Outiftters. With the classic thong sandal, too, you can try a simple solid color, or go with embellishment like a ribbon on the strap or a few brightly colored jewels. Depending on what kind of style you have, these shoes can definitely replace flip-flops.
Peep-Toe Booties
The peep-toe bootie was a huge trend for winter, but the trend has carried on to this season. Booties are the perfect addition for a night out on the town or a fancy dinner. Wear them with jeans or your favorite frilly dress. These booties come in lots of styles and colors including military booties http://www.hercampus.com/
Wedges
These wedges are always in style. You have two choices in this case. The classic strappy wedge in a classic neutral color like nude or black which you can pair with a dress, skirt, or pair of shorts; these shoes are perfect to go to class or shopping with friends. Or take a chance and go with the high fashion look like patterned or brightly colored wedges. These Alexander Wang wedged peep-toe booties appeared on the spring 2010 runway.
They were also seen on the runways of Givenchy and Proenza Schouler for Spring 2010. The patterned wedges are completely daring. Take a chance. They’re perfect for going out with friends and fancy parties.
The Mary Jane Pump
The Mary Jane pump appeared on many runways for spring, and happens to be a very wearable heel. You have the ability to dress this shoe up or down, whether you decide to wear this heel to class, to an important interview, or to a formal. These shoes are perfect for just about every event. Try wearing this pump in a fun color like forest green like the Ruthie Davis ones pictured above, or in a print like these patterned Mary Janes seen at the Erdem Spring 2010 fashion show.
If you dislike funky footwear, try a neutral or solid color like the ones seen at the Michael Kors show.
The Oxford
This menswear-inspired shoe is very trendy this season. Celebrities like Emma Watson, Sienna Miller, and Selma Blair have been seen wearing these ultra fashionable shoes. Sienna Miller wears vintage oxfords in the picture above. They’re great with cropped jeans and a blazer or even a simple dress. They seem to be this season’s alternative to flip-flops, because of their comfort and the ability to dress them up or down. Heeled oxfords were also a very big trend on the runways of Cynthia Steffe and the Derek Lam Spring 2010 shows. These shoes come in many different colors and styles. Go with black and white or a bright bold pink. Anything is possible with oxfords.
Spring has offered many options in terms of shoes. There are the peep-toed booties for the girly girls, the oxfords for the trendy, and the wedges for the sophisticated. But don’t confine yourself to one style of footwear. Take a chance and strut through the green in your leopard print wedges or walk to Saturday brunch with your friends in your salmon pink oxfords. This season, the choice is yours.
